MOUNT EVEREST COLLEGE ORGANISES WORKSHOP ON REARING OF SILKWORM

The Department of Zoology, Mount Everest College, in collaboration with the Directorate of Sericulture, Government of Nagaland, successfully organised a one-day workshop on “Rearing of Silkworm” at Smart Hall,Mount Everest College on11-07-2025 (Friday),as a follow-up to the MoU signed between Directorate of Sericulture, Government of Nagaland and IQAC, Mount Everest College. The programme aimed to promote practical knowledge and skill-based training in sericulture, equipping participants with hands-on experience in silkworm rearing and exploring sustainable livelihood opportunities.
Mrs. Vilhousienuo Khro, District Sericulture Officer, Kohima, Nagaland, delivered a comprehensive keynote lecture on silkworm rearing, highlighting Nagaland’s progress in Muga Silk Development under Silk Samagra-1 & 2. She elaborated on the life cycle of eri and other silkworm varieties, their products, and benefits.
During the interaction session, students and faculty members raised queries on silkworm consumption, health benefits, training programmes, and marketing aspects, which were addressed by the keynote speaker.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Miss Lishine, Assistant Professor, Zoology Department, expressing gratitude to the Directorate of Sericulture, Government of Nagaland, and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Mount Everest College, for their collaboration in signing the MoU in September 2024. The workshop was moderated by Liziine Caryn, 3rd Semester, Zoology Department, and welcomed by Miss L Lungshila, HOD, Department of Zoology.
Attended by the Principal, faculties, and Zoology students, the workshop promoted not only sericulture practices and sustainable livelihood opportunities in the region also help the students pursue the knowledge in the Course as per NEP Syllabus in the UG Zoology Programme.
