International Women Day

The Mount Everest College Women’s cell and NSS in collaboration with the Senapati Police Women Help Desk and Mount Everest College of Teacher Education celebrated International Women’s day on this year’s theme “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress” with the villagers of Taphou Kuki Village at the later’s Community Hall at 10:30am on 8th March 2024.

Shri. Thangkhokchon Haokip, MPS, Addl. SP (L/O), Senapati spoke at large pertaining women’s rights and protection of women against exploitation in different areas. He encouraged women to know their rights, educate their child, especially girl child as they are vulnerable and have them learn to stand for their rights.

Smt. Shangniring Nungchim, Assistant Professor, Mount Everest Teacher Education emphasized the significance of every day being Women’s Day and women’s pivotal role in society. Nungchim opened her speech with a thought-provoking question, pondering why Women’s Day is celebrated only once a year. She humorously suggested that the ensuing chaos would highlight their indispensable presence if women took a day off from their multifaceted roles.
This year’s celebration theme, “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” resonated throughout her address. Nungchim underscored the importance of investing in women’s education, healthcare, and economic empowerment as catalysts for societal and global advancement. Nungchim passionately spoke about empowerment not as a gift but as an awakening of inherent strength. She highlighted the transformative power of education and economic independence for women, advocating for equal opportunities to learn, earn, and lead. The speech also celebrated historical figures like Amelia Earhart and Marie Curie, who defied gender stereotypes. Nungchim called for collective action to support and uplift women, urging the community to mentor young girls, support women entrepreneurs, and recognize women’s contributions daily.
