Under the aegis of Mount Everest College NSS Unit-1, the college recently commemorated World Water Day on 22nd March, 2023, centered around the theme of “Accelerating Change,” at the College Smart Hall. The event was attended by a total of 50 NSS volunteers and teachers.

In accordance with the day’s commemoration, an enlightening Awareness Programme was held, featuring Ms. Vashti Kho, Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology, as the Resource Person. During her introductory address, Ms. Kho emphasized the pressing need for decisive action to safeguard the planet from the looming water crisis. According to the United Nations, “Billions of people, as well as schools, businesses, healthcare centers, farms, and factories, lack access to safe water and toilets. Therefore, there is a critical need to accelerate change and move beyond the conventional approach.”

Ms. Kho further expounded on three crucial points: 1) Global water scarcity issues and crises; 2) National water scarcity issues and crises; and 3) Local water scarcity issues and crises. She exhorted the NSS volunteers to play their part as responsible citizens and spread awareness about the water crisis while also taking practical steps to conserve water resources, starting from their families, neighborhoods, society, and country, ultimately contributing to the greater good of the world.
